Late Link no. II

Unlike the lazy author of this blog, Roger Cohen of the IHT has finally finished his big integrative piece on the Netherlands, the problems of multiculturalism, and the uncertain future of Muslim integration.

It's well worth the effort of reading, and is freed from the timesdelete wall that Cohen usually has to suffer behind.

Go.

Thank you for the link to the excellent piece by Roger Cohen.
There is another aspect we need to consider: the very nature of immigration/assimilation is changing. Thanks to modern telecoms, it is far easier for immigrants/ex-pats to maintain islands of their own culture within some other culture: US ex-pats in Costa Rica, South Korean business people in Shanghai.
In Europe, this will not make things any easier, unfortunately.

You're most welcome. Integration of immigrants may indeed be hindered by modern technology. This would for instance mean that strategies like spreading immigrant groups geographically, which may have been very effective in the past will now be less helpful.

(People are still reading this blog after 5 months of inactivity? Maybe I'll restart it one of these days, time is no longer a major hindrance)
